The first version of the MOTOR Synth was conceived as a condensed desktop version of the original MOTOR Piano design. The MOTOR Synth featured two Motor voices with 4 note polyphony (8-motor block), separate analog VCAs and a single paraphonic analog filter output. It had a built-in mini keyboard, a modulation section as well as built-in simple arpeggiator and motion record engines.
The Prototype was first unveiled at the 2019 SOOPERBOOTH show in Berlin, and it immediately sparked a wave of controversy within the synth community.
For some the MOTOR Synth appeared to be a completely ridiculous, overengineered and limited instrument - at one point the phrase “pure embodiment of evil hipster trash” was used, while others called it one of the most innovative and exciting instrument designs the industry had seen in years.
We were nervous for a second there, but once we received a glowing endorsement from Jean Michel Jarre himself - we knew that we were doing something right.
The MOTOR Synth was another crowdfunding success story - it took over 500 passionate, devoted and patient supporters to make this highly ambitious and technologically challenging project a reality. In July 2020 the first version of the MOTOR Synth finally started shipping, but due to COVID-related supply chain and manufacturing issues the production was slow and cumbersome.
By 2021 we have already begun introducing new ideas and additional features into the MOTOR Synth's design - a more sophisticated version of the MOTOR Synth was emerging.
Finally - the MOTOR Synth MKII was announced in May 2022 - it is the result of over four years of development, and we are extremely proud of what we have achieved.
We strongly believe that there is a deep synesthetic connection between artists and the tools that they create with - that is why sometimes all it takes for a new musical genre to emerge is having the right new instrument fall into the right hands.
