Is it stereo?

All AUTO Series pedals are capable of mono, stereo as well as mono-to-stereo or stereo-to-mono operation.

Is it digital or analog?

The AUTO Series pedals are digital devices that use a powerful DSP chip to process audio effects and automation.

Is it true or buffered bypass?

The AUTO Series pedals operate with a buffered bypass with A/D D/A Conversion of 24b/32b, 44.1kHz sample rate.

Is it suitable for a bass guitar?

Definitely! Gamechanger Audio AUTO Series pedals were designed with guitar, bass, synth, and even acoustic instrument players in mind.

How do I use it with an acoustic guitar?

It is possible to use an AUTO Series pedal as an additional effect if you’re playing an acoustic instrument, for example, an acoustic guitar. In that case, usually, the instrument’s sound is being picked up with a mic or pickup. For the AUTO Pedal to operate, the audio signal should match to instrument level. If your instrument has a pickup, it should match the necessary instrument level. But if you’re using a mic to harvest the sound, the audio signal will need to be lifted from mic to instrument level. The most convenient way of doing that is using a pre-amp.

How do I use it with a wind instrument?

It is possible to use the AUTO Series pedals as an additional effect if you’re playing a wind instrument, for example, a flute. In that case, usually, the sound of the instrument is being picked up with a mic. But for the AUTO Pedal to operate, the audio signal that the mic generates should be raised to instrument level. Otherwise, the effect generated by the AUTO Pedal will be barely audible. The most convenient way on how to do that would be using a pre-amp.

Do the AUTO Series pedals come with a power supply?

Gamechanger Audio doesn’t provide a free power supply in the box.

The AUTO Pedal can be powered with a standard pedal power supply – a center-negative polarity with 9V DC and at least 250mA (barrel plug – 2.1 x 5.5 mm). Using power supplies with a higher voltage (V) will damage the effects unit. No options to insert batteries.

The AUTO can also be powered via a USB-C plug.

What is the difference between the MOD and AUTO Series? They seem to do the same thing?

The MOD was the original intended title of the AUTO Series. We had to change the name in the process of product introduction due to trademark issues.

Are there drivers for the AUTO Delay? For MIDI over USB etc?

The AUTO pedals should work with standard midi protocol without any particular drivers.

In line with my guitar responding to dynamics, I'm interested in getting gated reverb sounds where a) the reverb only kicks in after a certain dynamic threshold and b) the reverb immediately cuts out when the signal goes below a threshold. Is this something the AUTO Reverb can do?

Yes, with LEVEL modulation from Dynamics in MIX mode.

I've been checking out the gate function on the LIGHT Pedal which is really cool. Both ducking the reverb when audio is being played, or cutting the reverb when audio stops playing. Wondering if the options for playing with this are as precise and expansive on the AUTO Series?

Yes, and even more precisely, because the Dynamics envelope time and shape can be controlled in three modes – Fast, Slow and Gate.

I'd like to add distortion/overdrive to the reverb sound only when it kicks in. Is that something I can achieve with the AUTO?

It is possible if you make a separate reverb & overdrive send/return chain for the AUTO Pedal, put the drive pedal after it, and set up the AUTO pedal for a WET ONLY output.

I'm interested in micro-modulating the pitch (and sometimes length/time in unison) of parts. In particular, I want to run sample-based, programmed drum loops out of my computer and into some gear. By modulating slightly, I hope to get closer to the feel of living, breathing drums. Is this something the AUTO Series is capable of or do I need to look elsewhere?

You could use AUTO Chorus in Chorus mode with slow rates for this effect since chorus is sort of a modulated pitch shift within small intervals.

If I were to (let's say using the reverb) only want reverb above the opened A string pitch or conversely below it, where would I need to have the knobs and all slider switches set (before and/or after calibration)? Likewise with cable connections. Would this be stored upon powering down and or would it need recalibration upon powering up again?

This means that you will modulate Level. You need to patch one of the pitch outputs to the “Level” parameter. For the effect to engage above A: select "note mode" underneath Pitch knob and turn the Pitch knob clockwise to +. For below A, turn the Pitch knob counterclockwise to -.
To calibrate, press and hold ON and play the note.

The large Level knob determines the starting point of the modulation, the "from" value. Turn that counterclockwise to minimum. The small Level knob determines the ending point of the modulation aka "to" value. Turn that clockwise. The toggle switch in the middle should be in SUM mode. The nearby "Level" toggle switch on the back (IN/WET/MIX) determines which point in the signal is to be modulated, in this case it should be set to IN.

Will the AUTO Series remember the calibration when plugged off?

Yes, the pedal will store the pitch and dynamics calibration even when plugged off.

Does "Automation" need to be calibrated separately from "On"?

Holding AUTO and playing will calibrate the dynamics/volume level and that signal will be sent via the Dynamics Output jacks. If they are not plugged in, there's no need to calibrate.

That warning not to connect TRACK OUT to PARAMETER input seems like maybe it is a tease. I like surprises so will it blow up the pedal or fry something or just behave in wild ways or ?

It won't blow up or hurt the pedal, no worries 🙂

Then I went again to the web site but don't yet see more patch diagrams or blank patch sheets etc. Am I just missing the links for that?

What is the AUTO Splitter?

The AUTO Splitter is a passive signal splitter with 2x 1/4 outputs and 4x 1/8 outputs, all of them TRS. It is intended to copy the tracking signal at the beginning of the pedal chain. The AUTO Splitter will not cause signal deterioration.

Do I need a Eurorack to operate the AUTO Pedals?

Each AUTO Pedal can be used separately and requires no additional gear. The eurorack format (aka control voltage) is used only to connect either pitch or dynamics to any of the pedal's parameters.
That said, the pedal is capable of sending and receiving control voltage to and from external devices.

Would it be ok to just make it first in the chain or should I always use the splitter and clean in? Or just experiment? I feel sure it should go before the octaver, Plasma, Plus and Light pedals.

You can either dismiss or use the splitter however you like. It's not necessary if it's the first pedal in the signal chain or the second after a tuner or other device that will not interfere with the input signal.
