Real-time Audio Sampling is a unique generative algorithm developed by Gamechanger Audio that allows you add piano-style sustain and sostenuto functionality to any musical instrument. This is achieved by capturing and looping small segments of the instrument's output signal to produce smooth layers of sustain.
Unlike granular synthesizers and synth-pad triggers, the PLUS Pedal continuously records and analyzes a high-resolution audio buffer. When engaged, the algorithm identifies the optimal portion of the note's decay phase to create a seamless circular micro-loop.
Think of it as a smart looper that catches the entire decay segment of the most recent note or chord, and uses it to create a continuous sound.
“Real Time Audio Sampling” ensures that each note or chord sustained will retain the exact timbral qualities of your instrument and faithfully reflect your playing dynamics, making the PLUS Pedal compatible with all melodic sound sources - including all string instruments, synths, samples, brass & woodwinds, and even vocals.
The PLUS Pedal offers full control over each layer of sustained sound. The RISE and TAIL knobs set the fade-in and fade-out speed of each new layer. The SUSTAIN knob controls a gradual high-cut filter that is tuned to emulate the natural decay properties of plucked strings.
The piano-style foot-pedal provides a gradual response curve, letting you add subtlety and nuance to every sustained layer.
You can remove all DRY signal from the PLUS Pedal's main output by activating a toggle-switch on the pedal's side panel or using a dedicated "WET" footswitch. This lets you transform the PLUS Pedal into a powerful ambient sound design tool - creating multiple stacked layers of sustained note and chord swells out of any instrument.
The PLUS Pedal features a pair of Send and Return jacks on its side panel for easy patching with external effects units. Effects units inserted into the FX Loop will only affect the sustain layers created by the PLUS Pedal. Modulation effects such as chorus, vibrato or tremolo work perfectly in the FX Loop, adding movement and rhythm to the sustained layers. You can also use reverbs, delays, harmonizers and even distortion units to texturize and morph your sustained notes into something truly extraordinary.

The BLEND knob adjusts the volume of the WET signal produced by the PLUS Pedal- the WET signal volume can range between zero and a roughly 2x boost, depending on the knob position.
The middle “12 o’clock” position (indicated by a special indent in the potentiometer’s path) represents an even volume balance between the instrument’s input signal and the WET signal produced by the PLUS Pedal.
The RISE knob sets the fade-in speed of all new sustain layers generated by the PLUS Pedal.
The minimum setting will bring in the WET signal instantly, whereas the maximum setting will produce extended gradual swells.
A setting between 9 and 12 o’clock will provide the smoothest transition between your instrument and the generated tone, whereas longer settings are excellent for creating soundscapes and cinematic ambiance.
The TAIL knob adjusts the amount of signal spillover after each pedal release.
When the TAIL knob is set to zero there will be no spillover signal – the sustained tone will cut out instantly as soon as the pedal is released.
A 9 o’clock setting will produce just enough spillover signal to create smooth transitions between different chords.
This is useful when you are stepping outside of diatonic harmonies.
Setting the TAIL past 12 o’clock will result in long, gradual fade-outs, thus giving you enough time to start building up multiple layers of sustain and allowing you to sample a new chord while the previous one is still ringing out.
When TAIL is set all the way up, all layers will sustain infinitely. Up to 5 layers of sustain can be stacked on top of each other.
The SUSTAIN knob adjusts the speed and depth of a gradual high-cut filter applied to the sustained layers. This moving filter lets you carve out some space for melodic lines and anything else you want to play on top of the sustained layers.
When set to the minimum position, the high-frequency cut will be quite significant.
When set to max, the sustained layers will be completely static for as long as the foot-pedal is pressed down, with no high frequency reduction applied.
In GROUP mode – the SUSTAIN knob is used to set the number of layers allowed simultaneously – you can choose from 1 to 5 layers (see drawing below). That means – Even if you are playing with a long TAIL – setting the SUSTAIN knob to minimum will limit the maximum number of sustained sounds/layers to just 1 single layer. This is indicated by the main LED, which will produce a single flash when the SUSTAIN knob is turned all the way down. If you’d like to use two circular layers, turn the SUSTAIN knob to around 10 o’clock until you see two quick flashes, and so on..
The PLUS Pedal can be operated in two modes: GROUP or SINGLE (adjustable with a dedicated toggle switch).
When in SINGLE mode, holding down the foot-pedal will sustain the most recent layer, while all previous layers will continue fading out according to the rate set by the TAIL knob.
In GROUP mode, pressing and holding the foot-pedal lets you sustain the whole group of audio layers that are currently active.
For example, you can use a medium TAIL setting to create a quick three note arpeggio and keep all three layers sustained by holding the foot-pedal down.
The PLUS Pedal features two ¼ inch output jacks labeled “OUT” and “CLEAN OUT/FSW”. There is also a toggle switch on the pedal’s side labeled SPLIT & MIX.
“OUT” is the PLUS Pedal’s main output which can send two kinds of signal:
1) MIX: the WET signal combined with the DRY signal coming from your instrument – this is the PLUS Pedal’s most commonly used mode and it can be activated by setting the above-mentioned toggle switch to “MIX”
2)SPLIT: only the WET signal generated by the PLUS Pedal. This way your instrument’s DRY signal will be muted, but you will still be able to produce sustained layers with the foot-pedal.
The second output, labeled “CLEAN OUT/FSW” sends out the unaffected DRY signal from your instrument at all times.
Thanks to this dual output system the PLUS Pedal offers a lot of diversity when it comes to setting up your signal chain and creating stereo effects. The “CLEAN OUT/FSW” output also doubles as an input for the WET Only Footswitch.
The WET Only Footswitch serves as a remote foot-controller for easy access to the “WET only mode” as you play.
This added flexibility allows you to integrate the WET Only mode into various parts of your song arrangement.
The FX Loop lets you process the WET signal generated by the PLUS Pedal through external effects units.
As a start – connect a Tremolo or Vibrato unit to add a satisfying pulsation to all of the sustained notes / chords you produce with the PLUS Pedal. Modulation effects, such as Choruses, Flangers or Phasers will add a nice psychedelic “turbulence” to your sustained layers.
Pitch-shifters, Harmonizers and Octavers are great for creating complex tonal content, polyphonic arrangements and songwriting.
