FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
No. PLUS Pedal II is a mono processor. The TRS MAIN OUTPUT can carry two identical copies of the signal (with a TRS-to-dual-TS Y cable), and stereo effects in the FX LOOP can pass their stereo image through to the MAIN OUTPUT (see next question).
Yes. SEND and RETURN accept TS or TRS cables. In LOOP and POST modes, a stereo return is passed on to the MAIN OUTPUT, so wide reverbs and delays reach a stereo rig. In PRE mode the return feeds the sustain engine, which folds it to mono.
The sustain engine is digital (44.1 kHz, 24-bit). The microphone preamp and XLR GAIN control are analog. Your DRY signal is buffered and passed through without changing its level.
Buffered. PLUS Pedal II has no bypass footswitch: the brass foot-pedal brings sustain in, and your DRY signal always passes through the input buffer.
Yes. PLUS Pedal II works with any melodic instrument, bass included. Clear note attacks help the automatic CATCH modes detect each new note; for slow or soft playing, use CATCH SINGLE.
Plug a pickup into the 1/4" MAIN INPUT, or a microphone into the same combo jack via XLR. For a room-friendly setup, engage KILL DRY and send the MAIN OUTPUT to a PA or amp: the guitar fills the room on its own and the speaker adds only the sustain. This also greatly reduces feedback.
Connect a dynamic mic straight to the XLR input. Start with XLR GAIN low and raise it while playing at your normal level, aiming for a strong signal without distortion. Then set CATCH to ALL, press the pedal and play separate notes to build chords from a single-note instrument. The optional Footswitch's HIDE mode lets you keep the notes you use to build layers out of the mix.
The MAIN INPUT is a combo jack with a built-in analog mic preamp (up to +27 dB). It works with all dynamic mics. It does not provide 48V phantom power, so condensers need phantom from an external preamp or mixer first.
Yes. Set HOLD to NONE, turn TONE fully counter-clockwise to the piano icon, and set CATCH to SINGLE. The LED ring turns blue: you're in Piano Sostenuto mode. CATCH ALL gives a real piano damper pedal instead (yellow LED).
A freeze captures one frozen snapshot. PLUS Pedal II's Real-Time Spectral Sampling builds living sustain: up to 10 independent layers, each with its own RISE and DECAY, that keep the breath, bowing, vibrato and dynamics of what you played. The brass foot-pedal is continuously variable, like a real piano pedal, not an on/off switch.
The concept comes from the piano. Sostenuto pedal usually is known as the middle pedal on pianos. Its aim is to hold longer selected notes that have been pressed on keys leaving other notes unaffected. And this is exactly how the PLUS Pedal works.
How to use it? Play and hold a note or a chord and press the damper pedal. Now the notes you have played will continue to sound after releasing keys on the piano.
How to use it with the PLUS Pedal? Play and hold a note or a chord and press the damper pedal. Now the notes you have played will continue to sound after releasing strings on a guitar. The exact same concept of the sostenuto pedal on piano!
Both. The original PLUS Pedal worked closest to a sostenuto. PLUS Pedal II adds three dedicated Piano Modes: Real Piano damper (CATCH ALL), Piano Group (CATCH GROUP) and Piano Sostenuto (CATCH SINGLE), plus its non-piano CATCH and HOLD modes.
Gamechanger Audio doesn’t provide a free power supply with a PLUS Pedal.
The PLUS Pedal can be powered only with a standard pedal power supply – 500mA min, 9VDC, center-negative 2.1 x 5.5 mm plug. Using power supplies with a higher voltage (V) will damage the effects unit. No options to insert batteries.
THE EXTERNAL FOOTSWITCH
the PLUS Pedal II Footswitch is sold separately. It adds three modes: WET (removes DRY from the MAIN OUTPUT), LATCH (acts as if the brass pedal is held down, freeing your foot) and HIDE (mutes DRY only while the brass pedal is pressed).
Like PLUS Pedal II itself, the Footswitch is mono in / mono out. Its DRY OUT carries a buffered copy of the clean signal entering PLUS Pedal II.
PLUS Pedal II is designed for the PLUS Pedal II Footswitch.
A 1/4" TRS cable from the Footswitch to FSW / DRY OUT. Without a Footswitch, the same jack works as a DRY output with a standard mono (TS) cable.
A TS (tip-sleeve) cable has two conductors and carries one mono signal. A TRS (tip-ring-sleeve) cable has three, so it can carry stereo, a balanced signal, or, for the Footswitch, audio, control and power at once. SEND, RETURN and MAIN OUTPUT accept both.
It's powered by PLUS Pedal II through the TRS cable.
